OBJECTIVES

To promote and encourage loyalty and patriotism to Australia, support its Constitution, obey its laws and respect its history and traditions.

To instruct the members of the Order by Precepts and examples, in the tenets and fundamental principles of government.

To instil in the members of the Order a due appreciation of the privileges and duties of citizenship, to encourage members to be interested and to participate in civic and social activities and always to strive for the betterment of society.

To oppose tyranny and oppression where it exists in any form and at any level and to secure the perpetual existence of liberty of the nation as well as the individual.

To promote a better and comprehensive understanding of the Hellenic people and to spread and cultivate the attributes, ideals and legacy of Hellenism.

To generate and champion a sincere love for education and culture by promoting and participating in the dissemination of both.

To promote and develop among members a moral code befitting our society; to stimulate, promote and practise good fellowship; to generate the spirit of altruism, understanding, co-operation and benevolence and to establish and encourage a strong sense of tolerance in the Order and society in general.

EMBLEM
The emblem of AHEPA represents Faith, Justice, Hope, Power and Peace.

The Cross is a reminder of the sacred story of the suffering, agony and death of Jesus Christ, and the ultimate attainment of victory, life and peace. It reminds us of the burdens we have to bear and the sharing of the burden of others. At the back of the cross are the ancient Hellenic sword and the sword of Australia which reminds us of the strict discipline, the swift and impartial execution of Justice and the readiness to uphold and defend free democratic institutions so characteristic to both Australian and Hellenic people.

The rays are those of the sun which give hope and which will always be discernible.

The spread Eagle is emblematic of the King of the air. He is strong in battle, swift in triumph, and fierce in defeat. The olive branch signifies that wherever it may be established, the deluge of ignorance, intolerance and discord are dispelled and a bountiful harvest is reaped by its presence in the form of knowledge, tolerance and peace.

The Sprig of Wattle is added to the emblem as a symbol of identity, as the wattle, no matter where it may appear, identifies Australia. Similarly, the Order of AHEPA, no matter where it appears, desires to be recognised as being a part of and a contributory to the Australian way.

Each Chapter of the Order may be named after either an Ancient Greek god or goddess or after a Greek Philosopher, prominent person or historical place.

Each Chapter of the Daughters of Penelope takes its name from the Iliad and the Odyssey.

COMMITTEES
There are many Committees, both national and state which organise our charitable activities. Our National committees are: Thalassaemia, Welfare, Public Relations, Justice for Cyprus, Return of Parthenon Marbles, Macedonia.

These committees work diligently to achieve their various goals for the betterment of the community.

AHEPA DAY
On this day all AHEPANS attend Church service together followed by lunch. Also on AHEPA Sunday, being the first Sunday of the National Convention, all interstate delegates together with their host State members attend a Church service. Also we support Anzac Day and Greek National Days.

AHEPANS are a group of people who work diligently and persistently in an effort to make the world a better place for those less fortunate than themselves.

AHEPANS enjoy friendship, pleasure and harmony through the Association. Through the help of new members who are willing to give of themselves and become active members of our Chapters and Committees AHEPA can enjoy progress also.

AHEPANS are involved in several committees outside AHEPA both in their parish churches and their own particular brotherhoods or associations. Many have held high office in these committees.

AHEPANS have a feeling of self-satisfaction and the knowledge that our charity work is an important part of helping our community.

The major purpose of the Order of AHEPA is to bring a better understanding between the Hellenic people and Australian society in general, and at the same time to preserve, maintain and foster the immortal traditions and culture of Greece.
